Dargah Sharif: The Dargah of Khawaja

Moinuddin Chishti at Ajmer is the most hallowed Muslim Shrine in India .The Khwaja was born in a village in Sistan near Ghor sometime between 1141 - 1143 A D . He came under the spell of Sheikh Ibrahim Qandozi, a divine person & become a fakir . Later he became a disciple of Hazrat Khwaja Usman Haruni ,who belonged to the Chishtiya order of sufism. He served him for nearly 21 years & visited Mecca, Madina & other places & received from his preceptor the
 khiraqa - i - khilafat. It was during his pilgrimage to Madina that he was inspired through an impulse to visit India. He took his abode at Ajmer , where was destined to live a life of piety and devotion till 1233 A.D.

He retired to his cloister for long inclination and when it was opened on sixth day of Rajjab, he was found dead. The exact date of his death was thus uncertain and therefore, the Urs or the anniversary of his death is observed from first to sixth day of Rajjab every year.

Urs Ajmer Sharif

Held according to the Lunar calendar. in the memory of saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, it is one of the biggest fairs of Muslims in India . Pilgrims from all over the world gather here to pay homage during Urs , Ajmer becomes a centre of religious , cultural & commercial activities

Shah Jahan's Mosque

One of the most beautiful buildings within the Dargah precincts ,it has a long (30.5 mts.)and a narrow court with a low arcade in white marble which is delicately carved with trellis work.

Government Museum

Emperor Akbar's royal palace now houses the museum which has a rich collection of armour and some fine sculptures of the region. This is popularly known as Akbar ka Kila.

Nasiyan (Jain Temple)

A beautiful Jain temple built in the late 19th Century. It has a splended double - storeyed hall cointaning charming wooden gilt representation of Jain mythology.

Built in the year 1865 by Rai Bahadur seth Mool Chand Soni of Ajmer. The temple consists of two parts, the first portion is the worship area for Jain community where idol of Lord Adinath the first of the 24 tirthsnkars, of jain religion is installed.

The second portion is the museum section where the five stages (Panch Kalyanak) in the life of Lord Adinath have been depicted in the form of statues. The 40 x 80 feet hall is exquisitely done up in pure gold, Belgium stain glass, mineral colour paintings and stain glass work. Thus this two story museum is a treat to the Soul.

Taragarh fort

The star fort was built by Ajaipal Chauhan in 1100 A.D. reaching the top of the hill by steep path, one has a commanding view of the city.

Foy Sagar

Situated at a distance of 5 Kms from the city, this lake was named after the engineer responsible for its construction. This picturesque lake was the result of a famine relief project.

Adhai-din-ka-jhopra

This mosque was originally an ancient sanskrit college within a temple enclosure. In 1193 A.D. Mohammad Ghori destroyed the college and built the mosque which has the remains of many surrounding temples. Three pillars, no two alike, have been placed one on the top of the other thus giving an impression of height, in a pillared hall, 61 meters long.

Sai Baba Temple

Sai Baba temple is constructed by Mr. Suresh K. Lal who is a resident of this Garib Nawaz City, but now he is settled in Koba, Japan. It was inaugurated on 2nd Jan 1999. This Beautiful temple is constructed in Ajay Nagar in a plot of 5 beeghas it is at a distance of 5 kms. from railway station.
 

Pushkar

11 Km from Ajmer on the edge of the desert lies the tiny tranquil town of Pushkar along the bank of picturesque Pushkar lake surrounded by hills on three sides ,Pushkar abounds in temples.Of these the most famous is the Brahma temple-the only temple dedicated to lord Brahma in the world. Every year thousands of devotees throng the lake around the full moon day of Kartik Poornima to take a holy-dip in the lake

Pushkar Fair

On kartik poornima , thousands of pilgrims come to bathe in holy water of the Pushker lake . The fair is overwhelming in its magnitude & its visual impact . beautifully come to raced & parched are also brought & sold.

The visit to all the sharis is completed in seven days & is known as chavbrs-kosi parikarama.

 

Kishangarh


Kishangarh was founded in 1611 A.D. by Kishan Singh, A son of the Rathore dynasty of Jodhpur. Raja Sawant Singh, who was not only a poet, but was a painter of high order. His masterpiece Bani-Thani gave a new theme and direction to the Kishangarh school of painting. In recent years, the town has became the largest trade centre & processing centre for marble.
